Blackbutt

Strong and Durable, Blackbutt features a warm colour tone and a unique grain pattern – an excellent choice for all projects where timber will be visible in its natural state. A popular Australian hardwood, it is readily available throughout the country and is ideal for structural use as well as for feature pieces throughout the home.

A golden timber, Blackbutt offers a stunning honey to pale brown tone with slight pinkish hues. Even in texture and straight in grain, it’s ideal for a range of projects.

Depending on the look you want to achieve, Blackbutt takes to stains, polishes and oils incredibly well, though paint can crack over time.

Straight and Strong

Whether you’re using seasoned or unseasoned timber, you can be confident that both the joins and timber itself are strong and durable, capable of withstanding stresses. When used in ground, it has a lifespan of up to 25 years, and when used above ground, can last well over 40 years. Not only that, Blackwood is termite resistant and not susceptible to lyctid bores – making it an excellent choice for exterior use as well as interior projects.

Variety of Uses

Thanks to its strength and lifespan, Blackbutt is favoured by professional builders and landscapers for a wide range of applications. Not only is it a great choice for structural projects including framework, it’s also ideal for projects where natural timber is the feature – such as decking and flooring, and even cladding for the exterior of the home! FAQ

Is your IronBark ethically sourced?

We know that part of providing our customers with the highest quality timber means ensuring the timber is sustainably sourced. For that reason, we only stock timber that has been grown in designated renewable plantations, and logged in accordance with the Australian Forestry standards. We can assure you that our Ironbark is perfect for anyone who wants to do their bit for the planet as well as using an attractive and durable product.

Can I use Blackbutt in fire prone areas?

Whilst many people love the look and feel of hardwood timber, they are often concerned that they can’t use it within their home as they live in a bush fire prone area. However, Blackbutt is one of only seven hardwoods that have been found suitable by the Building Commission in Victoria for homes where the threat of fire is a concern, or are rated between BAL 12.5 to 29. For information specific to the suburb you’re building in, speak with our team today – we’re available six days a week with friendly advice and recommendations.
